A UNIQUE PROGRAM

The PhD program in Marketing and Management in the Arts, Cultural Industries and Media is designed for graduate students, more specifically for experienced managers in the arts and cultural sector who are interested in gaining access to advanced expertise in their own area of activity. The program’s flexible structure allows students to choose the seminars and research topics that best suit their career objectives. The PhD in Marketing and Management in the Arts, Cultural Industries and Media offers a passport to a brilliant career as a university researcher and professor, as a consultant, or as a senior manager of a major cultural organization or public arts funder in Canada or abroad (e.g., UNESCO, Arts Council, Ministry of Culture, etc.).

SPECIALIZED TRAINING

HEC Montréal is recognized around the world as a leader in education and research in the field of management in the arts, cultural industries and media. The doctoral program in arts management offers students access to a unique pool of expertise composed of twenty PhD-holding professors who also have practical experience in the arts and cultural sector. All of these professors are actively involved in research in cultural management.

The key components of the program are its academic rigour combined with the acquisition of skills that are transferable to the cultural sector. The program prepares future graduates to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of cultural management, to publish in leading journals and to conduct in-depth research, the results of which will serve them in their career as cultural managers. Students will also have the opportunity to develop expertise in the teaching of arts management.

The program has been inaugurated in September 2010. The next deadline for applications is February 1, 2014. This specialization in arts, cultural industries and media management is part of the doctoral program offered by HEC Montréal in collaboration with McGill, Concordia and UQAM. Graduates will receive a PhD in Administration from HEC Montréal.
