UNESCO Chair in Cultural Management

In late 2012 the HEC Montréal Centre of Excellence in Arts Management welcomed the new UNESCO Chair in Cultural Management, a first for Canada. The UNESCO Chair has four objectives:

• Establish a research network to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and university cooperation on a North–South axis
• Facilitate the transfer, exchange and sharing of expertise in order to contribute to the capacity-building of managers in the Southern Hemisphere
• Train the trainers in order to promote the creation of centres of excellence in cultural management in the Southern Hemisphere
• Promote the Agenda 21 model for culture by training arts managers in an interdisciplinary and multicultural context

Planned activities include the hosting of foreign students, research residencies, online and onsite seminars, and joint publication of articles. To fulfil its mandate of reaching out to countries in Latin America, Asia and Africa, the Chair will seek to establish partnerships with universities in these regions, including the School of Management, Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, the Urban Research Plaza, Osaka City University, Japan, and the Instituto Universitario de Lisboa, ISCTE, Portugal.
